My amazing husband has been hard at work re-painting the entire interior of our home. It’s really brightened up the space and gives it such a fresh look. It’s finally starting to feel like our home and our decor style. I’m really into the whole modern farmhouse via Joanna Gaines decor and I think we’ve achieved that look so far. One of the features that instantly sold me on our home was the window seat on the staircase landing.
It’s the perfect spot to sit and relax, read a book, watch the sunrise or just cuddle up with my toddler for a few minutes while he’s still. The leaded windows add an extra charm and beauty. It’s honestly my favorite spot in our home.

What We Changed
It’s amazing what a coat of paint can do isn’t it? That’s the only thing we changed here — I kept all the cushions and pillows I had and I think it looks so much better. It’s really brightened up the area going upstairs and seems to allow more light come down to the foyer as well.
He painted all the wood trim around the windows and the baseboard white. The walls and beadboard wainscotting on the bench were painted with Benjamin Moore’s ‘Classic Gray’. I opted to leave the wooden bench seat itself natural wood to break up the white. I think it looks perfect!
Next up is adding some wall bookshelves to showcase some of our favorite stories and really create a true reading nook.
Here’s what the window seat looked like before the update:
It was still my favorite spot, and lovely, but felt a bit dated and dark. I knew we’d want to address it at some point, and I’m so happy I jumped on the paint bandwagon my husband led me to. I was definitely hesitant to paint the wood trim, but I’m not sure why. Either way, it turned out great and I LOVE it.
And yes, it’s still a favorite spot for our dog to stand watch over our neighborhood
