Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s 2018 already. Seriously, where does the time go? The new year brings so much new into my life — new goals, new resolutions, new challenges and new adventures. I’ve taken my time easing into this new year in all aspects of my life — home, the blog, work, etc. It’s been refreshing to take my time, relax and enjoy my surroundings more. But, life must go on, so here are my goals for January.

As usual, let’s check up on last month’s goals to see where I’m at:

1. Blog Goals

I managed to get one newsletter out in December (insert eye roll here). We were really busy in December with holiday parties, our daughter’s weekend soccer games and life in general. Still would love to reach out to my subscribers more, just need to get more organized about getting it done!

2. Interior House Painting

My husband has been so amazing with getting all this done. The living room, foyer and staircase upstairs are all finished. He’s almost done with the window seat and has started the upstairs landing area/hallway. Its made such a difference in our home — I absolutely love it. Look for a couple posts coming soon with all the changes we’ve done.

3. Master Closet

Ugh, this closet is starting to get on my nerves. Still on the back burner. It was Santa’s workshop last month, and my husband has been using it for his prayer room. I’ve also gone back and forth on what exactly I want to do in there. There’s some really good sales at Home Depot for storage and closet organization right now, so I’m hoping to finalize my decision by the end of the month.

4. Arts & Crafts

My toddler got an easel from Santa for Christmas, so we’ve been practicing “drawing” with chalk and dry erase markers. Santa made my daughter a “Slime Box” that had ingredients, directions and extra glitter that she’s currently obsessed with. I’ve got a few group crafts in mind for this winter since I enjoy being a homebody in the cold months.

5. 2018 Budget & Resolutions

We’ve started a rough draft of your household budget for this year. Two major expense we have coming up are a quick trip to Cali I’m doing in April for my best friend’s wedding and then our Senegal trip. Other than that, it’s business as usual so it was pretty easy to figure things out. One thing I’m sooo excited out is I’ll have my Subaru paid off in Aug/Sept. That extra money will definitely come in handy!

I did end up buying my 2018 planner — I found a coupon while going through boxes in our attic and it felt like I hit the jackpot!

To be honest, I haven’t set any solid 2018 resolutions yet. I know things I want to improve, implement and change. It’s the just the act of setting those intentions and following through.

January Goals

1. Blog Goals

This month I’d really love to get a solid amount of content scheduled for the next couple of months and an outline for the entire year started. I’ll admit I’m starting to feel a bit insecure about my ability to keep it fresh, so I need to take the time to get things organized, planned and drafts started pronto. When I started this blog back in July I had a lot of things already in mind and started so it was easy to just finish up a few drafts every week and post. Well, I’ve run out of those, so it’s back to the drawing board. I have SO MANY ideas, I just have to get it done.


This is one of my definite resolutions for this year, and life in general. My struggle with infertility for half a decade and then the journey of fertility treatments for a couple years really did a number on me. Not just my body, but my spirit. I’ve finally reached a place where I can admit that, and work to improve it. I’m slowly getting back to my yoga mat. I’ve started taking the time in the morning to better care for myself instead of running a mad dash out the door. I’m playing with the idea of a series on here following my weight loss journey.

3. Routines for my toddler

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a free-range mom. We aren’t strict with schedules for naps, eating, bed times. I mean, we definitely have a regular flow we do and it’s working for now. But I do know the importance of routine for his development and I’d like to just get a bit better with that. I won’t be turning into a helicopter parent, I think it’s important for him to have independence to build self esteem and his own identity. He’s definitely got that free spirit bug, and I won’t crush that.

4. Attic Organization

Once we’re out of this deep freeze here in New England (which looks like is finally ending this week), I want to get upstairs into our attic and get it organized. We moved twice last year — and the first time I was 9 months pregnant so didn’t help much. My husband, bless his heart, packed our entire house in VT for when we moved in with my mom for several months before buying our home in MA. Let’s just say he’s not the most organized packer. I can open a box and find items from practically every room of our former home. And yes, we moved to our ‘forever’ home a year ago, but I’m just finally finding the time and energy to be able to get everything that’s still in boxes sorted through. I plan on buying a car load of storage totes and finally getting our stuff organized.

5. Home Decor

Now that my husband has finished painting several rooms and areas of our home I finally feel like I can really decorate. I hesitated to get things up on walls, etc when we first moved because I knew we’d be painting and wanted to save him the work of patching holes and such. I absolutely LOVE the colors he chose and can’t wait to finally make our home feel like a finished space. I’ll definitely be keeping you all up to date with all the changes.

    That’s great you got a 2018 planner! I actually have a couple of them, but I need to set up some more things still, like putting in birthdays, etc.

    I’m hoping to post more about my health/fitness/weight loss journey this year too so it would be great to hear your perspective!! We can cheer each other on. ๐Ÿ™‚

      That sounds wonderful! Iโ€™ve always found itโ€™s easier when you have a support system doing it right along with you.

    Proverbs 4:25 has been my go to for goals – donโ€™t look to the left or right, but fix your gaze straight ahead of you. I pray to bring God glory through having focus this year & depending on Him!

    Hi Marie! I live that youโ€™ve set specific, tangible goals- the more specific, the more likely they are to be reached and completed! Home decor is something of an ongoing goal for me… I feel like Iโ€™m always picking something up whenever we go out! Itโ€™s still our first home together (weโ€™ve only been married 2 years) so we have yet to fall into a real โ€œhome-yโ€ home feeling lol

    I think I should make some sort of public post like yours about my goals. For some reason, much like a food journal, i feel that if others can see it then i had BETTER follow through! I love your graphics, btw!

    I so love that you have self-love goals! I think I need to start taking this more seriously, and even caring for myself better. I’m wearing myself out these days in the pursuit of my other goals. Thanks for sharing!
